Engine diagnostics

Engine diagnostics starts with reading fault codes, but it does not end there. We read both stored and intermittent faults, monitor sensor signals live — rail pressure, boost, injection timing, lambda readings — and compare them against the manufacturer's specification.

That is how we separate cause from symptom: the same fault code can come from a failed sensor, a broken wire, or a mechanical problem. The issues we most often trace — power loss and limp mode, rough idle, starting problems, and rising fuel consumption.

If diagnostics points to a particulate filter, EGR or AdBlue fault, we talk through the options with you — including AdBlue and DPF removal.

If diagnostics shows a clogged particulate filter behind the recurring fault codes, it can be resolved in software — see DPF removal and delete.

How much does car diagnostics cost?

Car diagnostics at Voltimoto costs 20–60 €. The 20 € entry price covers reading the fault codes and a first assessment: which system reported the fault and whether the car is safe to drive. If the fault needs deeper work — live data on a running engine, checking several systems, or measuring the wiring — the price lands between 40 and 60 €.

Mobile diagnostics within Tallinn costs 60 €. The price always includes a written summary and a repair recommendation, so you can decide the next steps calmly and with full information.

We quote the exact price up front once we know the make and model and you describe the problem. All current prices are in the price list.

Which systems we check

Car diagnostics is not limited to the engine. We read and interpret fault codes from every control unit in the car and compare sensor readings against the manufacturer's specifications.

If the cause turns out to be in the wiring, connectors or a current leak, we repair it ourselves — see car electrical work. After a control unit or sensor is replaced, the module often needs adaptation or coding; that is a separate service: module coding.

  • Engine and injection system — misfires, boost pressure, lambda and DPF sensors
  • Gearbox — automatic transmission fault codes and adaptations
  • ABS and ESP — wheel-speed sensors and the brake control unit
  • Airbags (SRS) — airbag warning light and seat occupancy sensors
  • Air conditioning — compressor control, sensors and valves
  • Body electronics — central locking, windows, lighting and comfort features
  • Battery and charging system — alternator, parasitic drain and current leaks

Car won't start or is in limp mode?

If the car won't start, starts with difficulty, or drops into limp mode while driving (reduced power, engine warning light on), diagnostics is always the first step — not replacing parts on a guess. Stored fault codes together with the freeze-frame data show what was happening in the engine when the fault occurred.

The most common causes we see: a flat or weak battery and charging faults, a failed crankshaft or camshaft sensor, fuel-pressure problems, a clogged particulate filter, or an AdBlue system fault.

If the car is not driveable, we come to you with the diagnostic equipment — mobile diagnostics within Tallinn costs 60 €. Book a time or call and describe the symptoms: we will tell you straight away whether to come to the workshop or have us drive to you.

Mobile diagnostics

We understand it's not always possible to bring the car to the workshop. We offer a mobile diagnostics service in Tallinn and Harju County, where we come to you with specialist equipment. A convenient solution for urgent fault finding or when the car is not driveable.

Frequently asked questions

Is diagnostics only clearing fault codes?

No. Clearing codes without fixing the root cause usually brings warnings back.

Should I bring my own OBD reader?

Not required — we use workshop-grade tools.

Which vehicles do you support?

Most passenger cars and light vans.

What happens after diagnostics?

You receive a written explanation, repair options, and estimates.

How much does car diagnostics cost in Tallinn?

Car diagnostics start at 20 €, which covers fault-code reading and an initial assessment. The final price depends on the scope — deeper diagnostics, live-data monitoring, or checking a specific system (engine, ABS, airbag) may cost more. We also offer mobile diagnostics across Harju County. Tell us your car's make and model and describe the issue, and we'll give you an exact price and time slot right away.

How is engine diagnostics different from just reading fault codes?

A fault code tells you which system reported a problem — not why. In engine diagnostics we also monitor live data with the engine running and check the wiring where needed, so we find the actual cause. That avoids replacing parts on a guess.

Can you run diagnostics if the car won't start?

Yes. If the car won't start or isn't driveable, we bring the diagnostic equipment to you — mobile diagnostics within Tallinn costs 60 €. Fault codes and sensor readings can be read on a stationary car, so in most cases the cause is found on the spot.
